Below shows a study conducted by Eric Martens, Ph.D a professor from the University of Michigan, on the result of fiber deprivation on the gut in mice.
In summary, the study conducted shows the mice who received a diet that was 15% fiber from processed fruits and vegetables, found that the infection would be less likely to stick versus the mice who received no fiber in their diet.
As shown above, having fiber in your diet can protect your body against infection, as a low fiber diet can have an affect on your gut's mucus layer and your body's tendency towards diseases. Eating lots of fiber from different sources can help improve your immune system and help build a healthy happy gut!
